Mullvad's co-founder is apparently the main financier of a Swedish far-right party

Original Story (Swedish) https://www.flamman.se/techprofil-ger-miljoner-till-orebropartiet/

Posting this because I hadn’t heard about it before and I’m probably not the only Mullvad user here, so might as well.

I’m not Swedish, but going off NATOpedia, it seems like the party is basically reinventing fascism from first principles:

The party claims to stand for a “class-conscious populism” which according to party leader Markus Allard takes inspiration from marxist ideology and unites the “productive” classes of society against the “Transferiat”, with the “Transferiat” being a term coined by Allard to describe the classes of society that lives off transfers that are a net negative for society such as those who, despite having an ability to work, live off social welfare benefits, as well as those who work “made-up services”[…]

The party differs from modern day left-wing parties by seeing the working class as co-dependent with people working in enterprise and business and instead sees the classes that “live off transfers”, as specified, as a large economic net-negative and an obstacle for a functional society.

Their ideology is nonsense fake-marxist revisionism to redirect anger at capitalism and turn it against immigrants and people who need social welfare (though they do back some generally left oriented social policies, their main thing appears to be racism)

Even if you’re comfortable with funding this, it still begs the question of just how trustworthy Mullvad actually is.

I guess this still beats any of the dozens of Israeli VPNs that definitely spy on you, but it’s not great

I see on lemmy. btw, just for the record, lemmy instance is mine :)

@Stylus1063
Well, do you know they don't do any of that? Or similar causes / projects? You're judging people who clearly value privacy by what is almost certainly sensationalistic BS targeting them due to their privacy stance. Two people are in prison on the most bullshit of charges trying to give us privacy. Trust me, this is bigger than who they may or may not support. This is the ongoing cryptography war, that had never ended regardless of popular belief.

@nemesis

Well, do you know they don't do any of that? Or similar causes / projects?

well, the 2 examples provided by @Stylus1063 where "QubesOS" and "GrapheneOS"
so asked llm to confirm, seems like they did, that nice, 2 really cool projects tbh:

QubesOS:

GrapheneOS:

but yea regarding the rest of your comment @nemesis i agree and that's just fucked up...
like, for samourai wallet, pretty sure even orange dude literally namedropped Keonne saying "ill look into it" but like... nothing happened right? dude still in jail literally for building software...
what was being warned about for literally decades about the whole pgp thing and that whole legal battle that "code is speech"
just feels surreal that this is the present tho... for ross at least could argue he been flying too close to the sun literally being involved with markets and whatnot, but for samourai wallet devs... that's just fucked up, that was literally a non-custodial app, meaning they never had access to user funds, ever....

inb4 getting jailed for trading world of warcraft in-game gold for a world of warcraft in-game item and the monero ecosystem hijackers gonna cheer on that, trust lol

@SpinningCat The Mullvad team has been very vocal about all the attacks on privacy. Especially directed at the UK. I'm sure they know this, but they almost certainly are 'red listed' and are probably being actively watched / investigated. Shit's getting real ugly and these ghouls clearly have no limited to their depravity or what they will do to any adversaries. And when it comes to digital privacy / security, I'll trust devs that the media whores label 'far right' over any that are spoken of nicely, or worse, took their 30 pieces of silver from some likely spook-linked VC firm (Here's looking at you Nostr devs).
