Mullvad's co-founder is apparently the main financier of a Swedish far-right party

Original Story (Swedish) https://www.flamman.se/techprofil-ger-miljoner-till-orebropartiet/

Posting this because I hadn’t heard about it before and I’m probably not the only Mullvad user here, so might as well.

I’m not Swedish, but going off NATOpedia, it seems like the party is basically reinventing fascism from first principles:

The party claims to stand for a “class-conscious populism” which according to party leader Markus Allard takes inspiration from marxist ideology and unites the “productive” classes of society against the “Transferiat”, with the “Transferiat” being a term coined by Allard to describe the classes of society that lives off transfers that are a net negative for society such as those who, despite having an ability to work, live off social welfare benefits, as well as those who work “made-up services”[…]

The party differs from modern day left-wing parties by seeing the working class as co-dependent with people working in enterprise and business and instead sees the classes that “live off transfers”, as specified, as a large economic net-negative and an obstacle for a functional society.

Their ideology is nonsense fake-marxist revisionism to redirect anger at capitalism and turn it against immigrants and people who need social welfare (though they do back some generally left oriented social policies, their main thing appears to be racism)

Even if you’re comfortable with funding this, it still begs the question of just how trustworthy Mullvad actually is.

I guess this still beats any of the dozens of Israeli VPNs that definitely spy on you, but it’s not great

I see on lemmy. btw, just for the record, lemmy instance is mine :)

@nolan They make a good point. 'Made up services' is just about every industry in this modern economy, no? Maybe they didn't mean that!

Well, I just posted here and didn't put any my feedback yet (Last couple days I was sick). For me, Mullvad VPN is still one of the best company out there. I read a bit people's comments here, I believe one of the cofounder just did it with his/her money. So, that's means it's him/her decision and ideas, and we cannot do anything about it.

So, I am sorry to creating this thread here :/ I changed the header with mullvad's co-founder. Maybe next time I should read it before publishing here :)

I asked a Swedish friend about this party (after mispronouncing the name like 5 times):
"Oh Örebro? They're a tiny party, hardly matter at all. They're on like the municipality level, not national."

Make of that what you will.

@NickZ2 I don't know much about that but it sounds like he is unloading risk onto his employees in case one day he can't pay their wages! I worked in a company like that once and everyone was so proud but not one of those lads looked at the balance sheets lol of course they wouldn't

@Nebuchadnezzar_II
Well not all companies are the same. shares you can use in the bank to get a loan. And apart of the shares Elon pays quite well.

Unions have a hard standing in hi companies, as they promise solidarity and just wish for a say in the company. In Germany the VW mess is partly the unions fault.

@nolan some say I'm far right, others say im far left. Both are nothing but slurs 99% of the time. Does Mullvad work? Seems so. And that's all that should matter

@nemesis

I would prefer to support a VPN that spends more of their profits on supporting privacy causes like Monero CCS, Tor, Anna's Archive, etc. They do do this, they support Qubes, GrapheneOS, probably others, but that doesn't mean they couldn't do more.

I still use their VPN because it works well and I'm not going to switch, but I would prefer if they furthered privacy with profits instead of weird politics. It would be better alignment with what the people that use their service would want their funds going towards.
