ATM Monero Fiat IRL

thinking about ppl's old project at
https://atm.monero.is/
i think its worth to try and "easy" on paper. but security is different things, ppl can just use crowbar to do god's know what to the device and stole the fiat inside it. does anyone know real world example it running 24hour? or they intended to be placed inside lets said cafe... etc?

I know that Bitcoin ATMs are already rolled out and installed in many places because scammers on Kitboga often ask their marks to go to a Bitcoin ATM. I think that most of them only allow you to deposit cash to buy BTC, and adhering to those constraints may make engineering an XMR ATM easier. But its probably not as necessary for XMR because fees are much lower, so withdrawing relatively small amounts of cash is more feasible. I don't see why it couldn't work, as long as you didn't try to install it in a black area. I'd even work on a project like that if I had time for it. I don't have time for it.

@UsualCat a good start is design the exterior case to be secure like a normal ATM or a BTC ATM is, ie not able to be broken into with some serious tools and know-how and heavy enough that it couldn't be picked up and carried without effort. I'd love for them to exist, but personally I'd never trust anything looking like those pictured. They look like something from a toy store. Aesthetics are not necessary. Physical security of the machine is.

@nemesis thats whole new level of design man xD. i mean yea on my brain somehow all we need to do is just some type of touch screen screen with harden mesh behind it. + some metal case around it. for roller money, counter, and else its easy setup. but need real trust within community to use them

i doubt it never been used exept on university, cafe, etc
for sure not on public where "random" ppl can just touch his pee pee on that machine

@bulletbill22 so IRL its just deposit machine like fiat to crypto?

@UsualCat That's what I've seen. I'm sure there are some that would give you fiat for crypto, but I imagine it's a lot harder to secure.

@UsualCat Well, if you want something that is secure, and that people will trust using, it cannot look a child's toy. If you have something just setting on a counter somewhere that is publicly accessible, someone will run in and grab it eventually. And it doesn't matter who or what you can trust. If anyone from the public can enter the building, it will get stolen. Trust me. I know how criminals think. And it matters not if its in the hood, or in an area with multi-million dollar homes. Criminals gonna criminal. Its what they do. Tip cups at cash registers get stolen. Anything that isn't bolted down can and will get stolen. Like I said, the idea is good, and wish there were some, but it has to be done right, especially considering it will hold money.

@nemesis the closer way i think it while still professional and secure is just some like coin system on USA car wash. seems good and secure enough. and yeah.... good quality steel, metalworking surely need additional people, i myself build some table, chair, chest, and cupboard takes longer than normal xD imagine already doing wood cutting on other day, just need to bring it together and it takes almost 4 hour xD

@bulletbill22 in nutshell, fiat to crypto or vice versa really easy to handle if you had "front" side business, but as personal. will raise many many question such as where money come from, what type of job the money come from etc... paperwork really wild. usually ppl just do .... <can't reveal it here> ... before sending it to CEX for national fiat....

@UsualCat
Yeah if you have a clerk to do the trades then its easy, you don't need an ATM at all. Part of the reason the machines are desirable is you don't have to pay a clerk, and a machine could be more private.
