What your opinion of piracy?

@xenu I've never seen the data myself, but I've heard it stated many times over the years that music sales often increases due to 'piracy' (Napster was specifically mentioned) which makes sense, since as you said, you find something new and recommend to others. Word of mouth is a priceless and underappreciated (by the industry) form promotion.

Piracy is not just this bad thing that destroys small creators. It's a symbiotic response to greedy actions by media companies.

1. Small creators get fucked currently with copyright so they need to make money through other means like concerts. Copyright just helps the publishers
2. People don't pirate when there's a convenient legal alternative.
3. Right now, piracy is way more convenient than streaming, which is why it's growing.
4. Copyright is about preventing knowledge from being spread. The printing press caused the first copyright laws with a byproduct being less people getting those new books. If you want to advance our society information must get to everyone.

For professional corporate use, i hear windows still does things well. I know a lot of die hard linux guys working in offices who need to use windows, but they still run a VM on their machine for linux if they needed to.

However i do maintain that MS fucks the world and has been fucking the world since they further promoted the narrative of digital viruses...coinciding with the hoax that is Virology.

Convenience breeds compliance. Not saying that's you, but convenience does breed laxity in the renegade spirit.

Linux, especially Arch allows me to remain sharp and gifts me new skills. MX linux is awesome to use since it's debian based. Mint is also good. I'm on Manjaro at the moment but looking to switch to arch proper.

Yes dealing in crypto one must make sure their base of operates/command center has no backdoors. Windows is highly dangerous, and moving into the smart era of appliances and hardware, windows may contribute to your home becoming a surveillance box via the interactions between the phone, wifi router, your windows computer, and other tech such as lamposts outside the house, not to mention relay "nodes" (via other peoples window's computer or devices).

@UsualCat I see. I know a lot of die hard linux users who work in corporate office jobs that require a windows system. No shame in that. I hope that you can invest in say a laptop (say lenovo legion 5, or even an old skool lenovo thinkpad t430 fckin awesome piece of machinery) and slap linux on there, having them being your main drivers.

When i moved from windows about 5 years ago, i first bought a lenovo thinkpad t430 for £100 off ebay, and kitted it out with extra RAM and a new battery, as well as a new keyboard, i loved this laptop so much...shit i may get another one. I installed MX linux on there, debian based, and was such a blast for a year.

I made so much money from that £100 investment....i did all sorts of creative work on there...can't speak enough about it.

Thats interesting what you said about competer viruses and physical viruses.

And sure, you're probably right about windows. Cutting out windows is an easy way to reduce the risk of a privacy leak which could be fatal in crypto: no brainer really...

@BraveSmoke As far as I'm concerned, MX Linux is the best distro out there. I have it on a pc and 4 laptops. I tried mixing it up among my boxes, but eventually, all went back to MX

it will get rejected by system
