Monerica (Monero focused directory) has its main competition as kycnot.me, which lists various businesses and services with KYC information and details. KYCNot does not limit itself to Monero, it has Bitcoin, cash and somehow even fiat/ credit card payments. They even list some KYC services like Kraken.

Until late last year (2025), there was a huge feature gap with reviews, tags, search and filtering but Monerica has all of those now. There are tags for No KYC, Sometimes KYC and Always KYC. Monerica doesn't list very nuanced KYC details at the moment.

Despite Monerica having only Monero businesses, services and resources, it has currently 1,422 listings whereas KycNot has only 644 combined.

Monerica started in January 2022, whereas KycNot started in July 2020.

Both projects are open sourced.

For monetization, Monerica depends heavily on sponsors and to some lesser extent affiliate links. KycNot seems purely dependent on affiliate links although this is unclear since they paid for sponsorship of MoneroKon which is expensive. They may also be expecting swap aggregator affiliate income to make up for sponsorship.

For privacy, Monerica does not have JS or cookies, does not have accounts (PGP key used to arrive a thumbprint) and offers Tor. KycNot has JS and cookies, offers Tor and I2P, they have accounts issued by their site for reviews.

From a style and design standpoint, Monerica does not have images (except for flags) and has a mostly monochrome black, orange and link scheme. KycNot has a variety of colors and images.

Despite the more focused approach of Monerica, it seems somewhat more common to see people recommending KycNot over Monerica, even in Monero circles.

What exactly makes people, such as yourself, recommend KycNot over Monerica, in your opinion, and what would help make Monerica better?

The only non-negotiable is sponsorship, there is no way to run Monerica without it.

From the top of my head, kycnotme already has the self explaining name and it lists from top to down how much kyc the sites have on the startpage

I can explain more maybe tmrw. but maybe it's the main thing

@monerica I really don't understand why you make a big deal about having more listed services, kycnotme focuses on quality listings and verification before public display, you can see yourself from some of the reviews on your site that shady businesses get away with scamming a few people before they get caught and marked as a scam.

That's why I list kycnotme on the banner of our site, and not monerica, because kycnotme is set up to show proven trustworthy services by default and that's simply much more new user friendly than showing everything. It also rates services based on their privacy and customer friendliness, which monerica doesn't.

@Kodomu It makes sense what you are saying, but KycNot still lists scams and there are plenty of "Community Contributed" services where someone could get scammed on KycNot.

The filter on Monerica is more closely aligned with their approach by only having verified and admitted statuses. There are 193 verified listing on Monerica vs 43 on KycNot.

Monerica tries to list everything that relates to Monero and let people use the status and review filter to reduce the selection. The statuses change over time as more information is provided.

Is someone more likely to get scammed on Monerica? If they are only using verified services, not really. But are there more possible scams? Yes, that is fair to say.

Maybe the "Admitted" status should be more of a warning/ community contributed one?

But KycNot is also not verifying services like CoinCards (keeping at "Community Contributed") which have been around 12 years, the owner saying it makes no sense why they aren't verified and have tried to contact the site.

As for the privacy levels and other criteria, this is more what was expected to be the response.

Ive always viewed kycnotme as the platform to find exchanges/swapservices and Monerica for everything else.

@xenu This is the general perception but Monerica has more exchanges.

At first Monerica tried to differentiate itself by not being so focused on exchanges but the reality is that instant swap exchanges are like 90%+ of the money in the (clearnet) Monero economy. So getting more recognition for exchanges is important. But using Monero beyond exchanges will always be the real goal of Monerica.

@monerica right but the branding kycnotme is appealing because it is right to the point (I need crypto non kyc) and it also appeals to all cryptocurrencies. When many people are buying btc/ltc and looking for a directory of exchanges, this plays a role. And lastly, it has been around longer, and it earned reputation because it was a dedicates site focused on not using kyc.

@monerica when i go to kycnotme, my mind think of searching for service that i can sign up without giving up identity, when i search in monerica, i'm expecting to search for platform that deal business in monero. The name kinda give it away, but i didn't know that monerica also list website that accept other currency than monero

@sepia Monerica doesn't list sites that accept non-Monero, they all relate to or accept Monero.

@xenu It wasn't clear when Monerica started that the key word/ term "non KYC" / "no KYC" was at the heart of everything.

Monerica has other sites (MoneroPriceNow.com & MoneroMarketCap.com) which are more exchange driven.

KycNotMe is probably bigger in part because they try to put Bitcoin under their umbrella.

the key word/ term "non KYC" / "no KYC" was at the heart of everything

truth
which on that, couple years ago i literally got scammed $50 by cakewallet on that
they were all like: "no kyc credit card"
i was like: "aight, its actually a food emergency, let's try that"
got shotgun kyc'd, couldnt redeemed it...
sent them a mail, they were like "no refund, git gud"
considered it as a loss, found other ways to buy a bowl of rice thing...

then the whole coinbase thing that was like just fucked up, customer service literally sold those kyc data
kyc = kill your customers (literally)
https://github.com/jlopp/physical-bitcoin-attacks/blob/master/README.md

so yea, that was a great choice for kycnot on that
but yea, it been bothering me too they have things with like bitcoin or whatever, which just using bitcoin literally ended people's lives because of the transparency nature of it
so while bitcoin is not actually kyc'd itself, it could be on a similar spectrum at this point...

would definitely shill monerica over kycnot, as indeed, literally only monero services there
