Monerica (Monero focused directory) has its main competition as kycnot.me, which lists various businesses and services with KYC information and details. KYCNot does not limit itself to Monero, it has Bitcoin, cash and somehow even fiat/ credit card payments. They even list some KYC services like Kraken.

Until late last year (2025), there was a huge feature gap with reviews, tags, search and filtering but Monerica has all of those now. There are tags for No KYC, Sometimes KYC and Always KYC. Monerica doesn't list very nuanced KYC details at the moment.

Despite Monerica having only Monero businesses, services and resources, it has currently 1,422 listings whereas KycNot has only 644 combined.

Monerica started in January 2022, whereas KycNot started in July 2020.

Both projects are open sourced.

For monetization, Monerica depends heavily on sponsors and to some lesser extent affiliate links. KycNot seems purely dependent on affiliate links although this is unclear since they paid for sponsorship of MoneroKon which is expensive. They may also be expecting swap aggregator affiliate income to make up for sponsorship.

For privacy, Monerica does not have JS or cookies, does not have accounts (PGP key used to arrive a thumbprint) and offers Tor. KycNot has JS and cookies, offers Tor and I2P, they have accounts issued by their site for reviews.

From a style and design standpoint, Monerica does not have images (except for flags) and has a mostly monochrome black, orange and link scheme. KycNot has a variety of colors and images.

Despite the more focused approach of Monerica, it seems somewhat more common to see people recommending KycNot over Monerica, even in Monero circles.

What exactly makes people, such as yourself, recommend KycNot over Monerica, in your opinion, and what would help make Monerica better?

The only non-negotiable is sponsorship, there is no way to run Monerica without it.

@lIlIIllIIIIllllII Monero needs to become more synonyms with "no kyc" and privacy.

While it's possible to get BTC without KYC, it's just not what the Bitcoin brand is about. Bitcoin is mostly about the fixed supply inflation hedge/ anti-fiat/ make money narrative. Nothing wrong with making money but it's just hard to sell it as a privacy technology. Bitcoin is actually doing 10-20x as many transactions as Monero a day, which is interesting. From a market cap perspective, Monero does more transactions per market cap.

@esna7 A name does not vouch for a service.
Especially where value is of concern names are just smoke.

@NickZ2 yes, but

  • the name does imply 'nokyc' and i like the service
    compared
  • to the name not implying an exact purpose and i like the service

@monerica I actually recommend your site over kycnot.me because I want to promote the usage of Monero only instead of services that might not accept it. I do like the design of their site but Monerica has a charm to it.

One thing you could do is combine the search and filter page into one so when you search you can also filter without going to a separate page for that.

I also check on the daily what new services have been added and it's nice for that information is right there on the home page :)

@admin Filter and search could probably be combined but would need to have it easier to navigate or expand. They were done at different points in time so were seen as totally different features.

I just think kycnot.me UI is a lot better and the rankings are nice. I totally appreciate Monerica, but the UI isn't as helpful at showing the user what each service does as compared to kycnot.me. kycnot.me adds services based on their trust and reputation and use and is focused on useful stuff like services.

I also think it's weird to add sites before they've been verified. I wouldn't link to an outside service until it's been totally checked.

I might like Monerica more if it had UI like https://fmhy.net.

Monerica's ui just doesn't give me a feeling of trust when I look at it.

I appreciate monerica it's so great to have that collection of so many Monero accepting places, i just want to give honest feedback.

@Stylus1063 The design/ UI can only do so much without JavaScript. KycNotMe and that site you list both have JavaScript to make their animations.

The responses seem to harp on the idea that KycNot has more trustworthy sites but really it's just that the default filter excludes more than Monerica.

So, now there is an X poll to see if Monerica's search and filter should be combined. If so, then filtering and search could easily create the same or a better impression by having just verified services, or something similar.

The filter view is being reworked so that it better aligns with the expecations people have: easy to see listings, default to high trust ones,

The new filter view is live, with a "Highest trust" and also a search built in after feedback here. So there's really not much use for KycNot on the filter side anymore. The highest trust factors in age, rating and status so it's even more reliable.

If it can be further improved, please make suggestions.

@monerica Sponsored listings appearing before others in a "trust" ranked listing isn't really something people are going to appreciate.

I get making money but it's starting to feel like you are shoving it in people's faces too much.
