Linux BSD

Speaking of Linux and BSD, which do you prefer? I feel that each operating system has its own advantages and disadvantages (Linux distributions are grouped into the Linux family for now, so I won't differentiate them). I think Linux has better software compatibility than BSD, while BSD seems to be better for older hardware and security than Linux. This is just my personal opinion. I'd like to know what operating system everyone prefers.

I like both. Linux is a lot easier to use in daily use since its more widely used, but FreeBSD has a surprisingly large package repository

I would consider them pretty similar, the main difference in my experience is hardware support. Linux works with almost everything, while BSD can have quite limited support for things like network cards or newer hardware. Though I'm not sure if only really being able to use Intel NICs and LSI SAS cards is still up-to-date.

Now that ZFS is mature on Linux, I don't have any reason to use BSD any more, and if I need something very lightweight, Alpine Linux seems like a better choice. But if you prefer something less "corporate" than Linux, then BSD is definitely a good option, since I don't believe any of the big cloud companies use it much especially now that TrueNAS switched off it.

Linux is my preferred choice because the community is pretty big now. Even government are rolling out their windows and replace them with linux. But if you know your stuff BSD is pretty cool too.
