piracy

Almost everything requires a paid subscription these days. Simple things like live football matches which used to be free on TV are now hidden behind paywalls. As a result, piracy is booming again, at least in my country.

Personally, I do support the creators behind things like comics, doujinshi, and games. To be honest.... I pirate almost 90% of the time. However, if it turns out to be good, I put it on my list and buy it later. I even set aside a monthly budget for this, which I call my 'game and entertainment fund.'

My question is: what is your opinion on this? Do you support piracy, or do you reject it outright? or you had another opinion about it?

If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing.

And these days you don't even own your own data.

I'll pay for services and items of high quality that piracy doesn't have a solution for. In any situation where paying doesn't gurantee infinite ownership, no thanks.

I download all my media locally, use pipepipe for YouTube, and buy used game discs off ebay

My one struggle is wanting to play hi fi rush, which seems to only have a ps5 / xbone physical edition, , it's still denouvo-fied on steam, and otherwise on xbox cloud whatever, which is being gutted. But prolly gonna get cracked soon, and the studio was killed so no point in supporting microsoft. Just like my baby Japan Studio with Tokyo Jungle - buying it won't give me tokyo jungle 2....

I'm an artist (skills in vtuber making and livestreaming), wannabe singer, and chronically lonely loser- always willing to chat about nearly anything. Don't hesitate to start a convo with me.

I can't support piracy. Its tantamount to stealing, in the sense that someone made something and you're using it without paying for it, which is sin. More like going to see a play without paying. I still do it, but that's cause I'm a bad guy, not because its OK.

That said, I consider it even more immoral to support most "creators". The jews in Hollywood and at Sweet Baby Inc. are evil, and giving them any money is supporting their evil work, so its also sin. So if the choice were between piracy and supporting e.g. Hollywood (false dichotomy, opt out) then the better choice is piracy.

For context, I think the acceptance of USD validates the currency and empowers the jews printing money at the federal reserve, and every evil act that is enabled is your sin, so its just as (if not more) sinful than theft, let alone piracy.

I don't really give a shit about the ethical or legal debate. I'm an anarchist and will pirate when I want to pirate.

I've been pirating since limewire days.

I got into pirating when i took my PSX/PS1 from England to Hong Kong's computer district where people would rip, hack, pirate all sorts of shit. I understood the power, but i didn't understand the moralitty nor reasoning.

Now many years later seeing how everything is on a subscription basis, and after switching over to linux a couple years ago, i now understand torrenting. I don't see it as piracy if i can support artists without a middle man.

An example is gaming on linux...though i have a 11 year old steam account with 300+ games, i recognise the fact that i don't own these games. So i support "pirating" games, especially indie games where i know indie artists get the shit ripped outta em on the commercial video game market (Steam is a mfer in their market dominance ect ect). I endeavour to send these indie game designers the full price of their hard work via their paypal, or buy me a coffee, or i'll just email them directly asking if i can send them some money.

All about the free market yo.

PS - i2p snark is awesome. Bring back torrenting! Torrenting is such a great form of communication and the preservation of data.

@bulletbill22 invideous is never online and youtube works fine if you vpn to Albania + put ublock origin + keep history off. In my experience. Would be better if some pirates made their own video streaming service with their own infrastructure rather than trying to perpetually repackage youtube.
