Hi everyone,

I’ve been learning more about Monero recently and one thing I’ve been thinking about is how easy it is for someone completely new to get started.

There are quite a few concepts to understand at first, especially wallets, addresses, transactions, and network privacy.

What do you think is the biggest hurdle for new users?

Are there any guides, wallet features, or improvements that you think would make the learning process easier?

Interested to hear what more experienced Monero users think.

@james6134k i think if you want to make it simple
monero was just bitcoin but had closer idealism, untrace, secure, and decentralized

in nutshell its just wallet but digitally. or some coin app.
you had currency named monero, you can buy almost anything with it.
how to get started, just like other currency. get it first and spend it :D

one issue just searching where to swap it but after it everything easier :D

@bulletbill22 that's a choice by them, has nothing to do with a law. Monero is legal in the US, period. There is no ban on it, there is no grey area. You will not be arrested for simply owning it. That is all I am saying here.

@bulletbill22 Did you read them? The wikimore link clearly indicates its legal in the US. And being I live in the US, I think I can safely say its legal. As for the Kraken post, regulatory pressure hardly means something is illegal. There are zero laws in the US that makes Monero illegal. Whatever Kraken has to comply with to stay in business is not the same as it being illegal. And, its still available there. They haven't de-listed it, just put RESTRICTIONS on it.

regulatory pressure hardly means something is illegal.

Sure, if you want to play a semantic game. I think that if you could be prosecuted and fined or sentenced to prison, then its de facto illegal, or at least it's illegal to use freely. But I agree with you, there's no law on the books that makes XMR illegal in America, and its very easy to use here. That doesn't change my original point: onboarding is the issue.

The only reputable exchange I know of that will still trade fiat for XMR is Kraken, and they are introducing limits which make onboarding any sizeable amount of fiat nonviable. Adoption isn't widespread enough for users to find traders locally. Haveno doesn't have the liquidity or rates to be competetive, and its hard to install and use anyway. Mining hasn't been profitable for years. So how does a new user get XMR? That's the challenge.

@Nebuchadnezzar_II

Mining is too technical for new users, and like I said isn't profitable. Trocador is great but doesn't accept USD or other fiat, so it doesn't really help someone with no crypto to onboard.

I really think the only solution to this is more adoption, such that finding local traders is easier, or an android app for haveno that's as easy to use as e.g. cakewallet. Maybe one solution would be integrating haveno functionality into cakewallet or monerujo.

@bulletbill22

  • You're right about mining.
  • That level of adoption will never happen. These plebs don't even eat real bread.
  • Trocador remains the easiest, most available way into monero. You can just buy any crypto from the CEX and swap it on trocador. (just avoid bitcoin because its slow and expensive)
