What linux distro do you run?

I've been on KDE for about 11 years now. Love it!

I have 3 SSD's in my machine.

Drive 1: a big, heavy, feature-filled version of KDE Neon (with Snaps disabled) for the latest widgets and features as my Daily Driver for surfing, email, calendars, documents, etc.

Drive 2: Debian 14 rolling Testing for playing with sketchy home theater, AV, and piracy softwares. (I regularly wad it up and reinstall from a ResueZilla image.

Drive 3: A stripped-down to the bone version of Debian 13 on a LUKS encrypted drive, used only for touching my most precious crypto wallets.

@xbmrtc Ah ok. Yea I agree. I got Ghost on a spare laptop currently, trying to get more used to it. Eventually I wanna make one of them my main.

@quadriocellata yeah. devuan is debian but without systemd, although I might end up using debian anyways because I need something stable that I can use on my local network.

@xenu yeah I've seen that, systemd isn't a problem to me although I know it does quite fall in line with unix philosophy. If they start pushing age verification too hard in the future I'll likely migrate to devuan - if you end up playing with it do let me know how you get on!

@xenu try MX. Debian based, non-sysD, and quite stable. Been running it for years with next to no issues that weren't my own fault

@nemesis I'll check it out. I think im set on Debian/devuan but I'm open to other options :)

@xenu I recently switched from Arch to Gentoo, and the compilation process on my old laptop caused the CPU and adapter to get extremely hot.

Gentoo for me.
Artix on servers, mostly out of laziness. I found s6-init to be good but cumbersome to work with, so I use OpenRC w/Artix now.

Artix w/XFCE for normie friends & family.

I stopped recommending that newbies start with systemd distros, it just teaches bad habbits.

@fantuan On my old toaster, Firefox used to take ~12h so I'd run it overnight; now on my new devices it's done in 2h; Threadrippers really do rip.

@ancap_objectivist I think Gentoo is fine for everyday use, but it's more tedious than Arch in terms of installation, configuration, and customization because its compilation can be quite complicated. Using binary packages is not as good as Arch, and also, Gentoo's compiled binaries might be more suitable for the local machine, while using binary packages might result in less optimization.
