The bitcoin community is full on hold nothing but Bitcoin but I'm wanting to know what the Monero community thinks about holding and investing into gold and silver. Physical metals of course not paper

Generally speaking, during my 12 years in Monero I've seen that Monero people tend to hold more practical, realistic views of physical hard assets than Bitcoiners do.

Monero people are generally more serious about financial risks and threats to personal safety and freedom. They value fact-based, real-world utility over the cultic ideological social purity tests and the moonboy-ism that Bitcoin Maxipad weirdos tend to espouse.

Thus, Monero Bros know precious metals provide certain unique and beneficial features that paper and electronic currencies simply do not, and cannot have.

facts lol, including weed, well, not the same weed cause it does have shelf life, but great asset there too with its own certain unique and beneficial features that paper and electronic currencies simply do not, and cannot have
well, some are mass producing all year long on that, but i like the seasonal aspect of it from outdoor growing, electric bill can be for mining and weed on the side cause happy garden makes life a little happier

past few years in europe, lots of progress on that so far:

Here's the breakdown as of mid-2026:

Explicitly legal (home cultivation allowed by law):

  • Germany - since Apr 2024, 3 plants/adult (18+)
  • Malta - since Dec 2021, 4 plants/adult (18+)
  • Luxembourg - since Jul 2023, 4 plants/household (18+)
  • Czech Republic - since Jan 2026, 3 plants/adult (21+)

Not explicitly legal, but decriminalized/grey area for small-scale home grow:

  • Spain - private cultivation not criminalized if plants aren't visible from public
  • Italy - The Supreme Court (2020, Sezioni Unite n. 12348) ruled that minimal, rudimentary home cultivation for exclusive personal use is not criminally punishable, A popular initiative bill to legalize up to 4 plants was filed in 2023 but hasn't passed parliament
  • Belgium - 1 plant tolerated in practice
  • Switzerland - decriminalized; a bill allowing 3 plants passed committee in Feb 2025 and is in consultation

The OG no-KYC inflation hedges, I'm a fan.
Although I've been bearish on silver ever since I heard Mark Thornton explain its production: Silver is produced as a byproduct of larger mining operations like copper, iron, etc. whereas gold comes from intentional, targeted mining operations. So gold production can be ramped up more easily to meet demand.

I really want some but my obstacles are worries regarding being in physical possession of valuable goods. And also the risk of KYC when buying. I'd love to get not just solid bars, but some cool silver coins and gold coins. For now I have a gold etf lmfao

@rantcoin I think a person is borderline insane if he or she doesn't have some. Someone will always accept them, they do not lose value, clearly as private as it comes, and does not rely on any infrastructure.

@avarice the only 'kyc' when buying metals is how you pay. And if you go to a gold / coin shop and get any in person, you pay cash and be on your way. You don't need to prove who you are online or in person

@nemesis
ngl i always been too broke for allowing myself to spend a grand+ or whatever it is on a gold bar thing lol
and always got completely turned off by the fact on how to even check the validity of it, like, just seen an episode of "pawn shop" and they had to drill into the gold bar (loosing a bit of the gold in the process just to check the validity...), seemed so overcomplicated

but also pawn stars be scammers apparently anyways lol

Throughout history, people have always bought gold as a safe haven during catastrophes like wars, because its unique qualities have ensured it remains universally wanted and valued.

Legalization is no victory. Weed should be dirt cheap because its 'weed' not controlled by government censors. Make no mistake, the consequence of legalization will be that they will censor every spiritual and medicinal benefit of weed and all the other psychedelic organisms, at the genetic level. The work has clearly already begun. They'll keep making it more and more drowsy as well until smoking a joint in no better than watching tv; you'll be a zombie either way! Try smoking high quality organic outdoor and you'll see the difference compared to this gmo horsecrap.
So if you want to get rich off 'scarcity' forget gold and bitcoin and shit. Anyone not insane should start a bank to stack seeds and spores and shit and get rich off government censorship whilst securing the future of actual good weed. Instead of fucking dull rocks and flashing bits, horde the the handiwork of mother nature which took millions of years to create and will take just a few to censor!

@SpinningCat there are much smaller options than full ounces, whether gold or silver. As for fraudulent metals, well, watch where ya buy from. I mean don't just buy from random people, but if you get it from a business that likes to stay in business, it'll be real.
