virus malware

I was told to use a Monero full node for better privacy but when I try to download it from their site https://www.getmonero.org/downloads/ the web browser says couldn't download - virus detected!

Is getmonero.org legit?

hey, getmonero.org is indeed the legit one,
tho right now when i try to access it, it says:

else directly where the source code is hosted at, there is also the pre-compiled binaries over there:

the "virus detected" thing, regarding monero is usually a false positive, only because of the mining part of the code included in the software
like, if u download monero then you can mine monero directly from the wallet
and windows be like "someone trying to mine some of that cryptocoin by using your computer" and instantly deletes the whole monero thing

windows considers monero malware

but also, downloading malware do sometimes happen, so to make sure you indeed downloaded something that is not a malware but literally just a "cryptominer", then you can check over at virustotal:
https://www.virustotal.com
like for example, using the file "monero-win-x64-v0.18.4.5.zip", it says this:

so like, all those red text be scary but when reading into those, pretty much what they're detecting is "cryptominer"

so, it's most likely that the actual malware (aka windows) is saying monero is malware for being a "cryptominer"
but also idk what's up with getmonero.org right now so yea, make sure the SHA256 hash of the file you downloading matches with the official one

and would also suggest to just completely ditch windows as it really has no reason to be at all in 2026
(not even for videogames)
windows is the real malware, with their AI copilot screenshooting your screen every second or somethin

also.... did u know bill gates named his company after his penis? (micro-soft), like, it's micro and soft u know, so.... yeah, not very good...

like, sure, people could speculate on monero and just have that as an investment or something, not worrying about the security of their data (including passwords & private keys), not learning about the whole ecosystem around it...

but cryptocoins are opensource, bitcoin was made opensource, monero is as well
and the whole ecosystem around it should be as well

so if u also in it for the tech:

then would also suggest to just ditch windows and learn about opensource operating system, like any linux distro
like for example, for videogaming i been enjoying using Archlinux
lately it seems like CachyOS (based on arch) is getting popular for that as well
for daily driver, i been enjoying Ubuntu
lot of people been enjoying Mint (based on ubuntu) as well
it dont really matter which distro u pick, can be any, would suggest to just use a popular one, as it would have the most support & documentation going for it
but at the end of the day, it dont really matter which linux distro is picked, as long it's to replace the malware known as windows lol
there is plenty videos on youtube to learn from on how to move over to linux, so feel free to check on those and if someday you feel ready to make the switch from linux over to windows, then please also dont mind using this forum for support questions or anything like that
