delisting rip software donation donate non-profit

Some time between February 1st and February 22nd, VLC removed Monero donations after accepting them since January 1st 2018.

02/01/2026 Monero address listed on videolan.org/contribute
02/22/2026 Monero address not listed

February 1: https://web.archive.org/web/20260201002822/https://www.videolan.org/contribute.html

February 22: https://web.archive.org/web/20260222233830/https://www.videolan.org/contribute.html

The blog post introducing Monero donations in late 2017 acknowledges the importance of privacy in payments and the flaws of Bitcoin:

Put an archive as the default link for the blog because the blog has a shit ton of trackers. if you want to see the original just find it in the archive or here: https://blog.l0cal.com/2017/12/14/update-on-crypto-currency-donations-at-videolan/

That's weird. And why they do it quietly without announcement?

Thanks for the info and that sucks they removed it without notice. I use MPV to watch videos but it seems they don't take donations at all
