As far as I know there are already:

  1. E-commerce market = XMRBazaar
  2. Freelance market = monero.jobs
  3. Donation and Stream = Xmrchat

But i still didn't see a subscription service that can become alternative to Patreon. What make Patreon interesting is that you can make a tiered service for your supporter and plus you can give exclusive content that only the member can access. Does anyone know such service exist within the Monero community?

UPDATE:
Because there is few information available on the service with such concept thus born XMRStars, a membership platform for people that want to monetize their content made by @nolan.

this seems like the kind of project people would be willing to support the development of, as long as real proof of work can be shown @sepia

@nolan It looks all okay to me, just let me know when you need something.
I'll have the fastest response on matrix but here or via ticket is okay too.

I don't want to "spoil the party" here, but don't we have everything needed to do this already? I messaged some content creators that I used to support on Patreon and explained to them that for personal ethical reasons I can only support them with xmr going forward. They said "I understand", and messaged me a monero address. Now i support them still without Patreon. Does this xmrstars thing enable anything we can't already do?

@bro They accept monero? That's good to hear that we got hidden adoption. This is from my point of view but there still value to this website because there are many people that got banned on Patreon and cannot host their content themselves either because they don't have the money or they don't have the knowledge to set up website and the payment processor. You'd be surprised that there are even big influencers that got kicked out by Patreon like Tyler Oliveira, thankfully he have the resources to make his own website for people to support his work.

@sepia I like the LLMs, hate the hype. Yes, it can make everyone sonic but you have to do double check, otherwise you never know what did you build or destroy in long term :) Still knowing code is important.

@Kreep386 yeah you are right about that. I am thinking a beta version for proof before end of this year.

@Kodomu thanks man <3

@bro as sepia mentioned some of the creators cannot use Patreon and alternatives because of those platforms' policies and rules. On the other hand, people who are supporting xmrstars looking for privacy-first experience, censorship resistant and monero support in day one.

Alright everyone, wanna update a bit my current life changes, which will effect a bit xmrstars project's development phrase. If you dont know, I do have a service business called monero.software and long story short my business have been ups and downs, but last 3 months had not much revenue, and I failed :)
For surviving, now I am working as a Teacher, and looks like I will be like that a while. But as I promised, I will continue working on this project, not giving up on this. Thanks again for all the supports <3

@nolan Exactly, some people don't want to or can't use Patreon. That's why I'm saying its so cool that someone can just give me their monero address instead and bypass unnecessary platforms.

@sepia no you must have misunderstood, Patreon definitely doesn't accept XMR.

XMRBazaar is not really working.
You forced to install their secure messenger while to poster does not.
So all ads are basically meaningless.

I see two main reasons why services like this don’t take off:

  1. Recurring payments in Monero are not easy to set up. There is no pull mechanism like there is for credit cards.
  2. If large sums of money need to be handled by one person (especially with an anonymous coin), that person will be tempted to steal.

You need to solve at least one of these problems to enable Patreon-like services for Monero.

BTW, I’m working on one of these problems right now and will announce my project in a few weeks :)

@Otherfren Yeah point number one will be an extra steps for the subscriber and inconvenience can slow down business. For number two it really raise a great concern. A no custody model is a good alternative choice going forward but then it will be harder to maintain the server upkeep cost without stable source of income. It's my own personal take but I don't mind the website handle the money then take cuts for their own profit share like 2-3% once per month when the user want to withdraw their funds. It's a good business model to help maintain the website keep existing.

@Otherfren Recurring payments in any crypto are a difficult thing, but I don't think it's a problem that can't be solved. We have to deal with it by allowing customers to deposit funds that are then automatically taken to cover their next invoices, but at the same time this is optional.
So a customer gets the option of either using the custodial wallet, or paying when the invoice is sent.

I do think it could be possible to solve some issues with the site holding the funds though, what if the site instead held the view keys for a wallet that is controlled by the creator, and the end users pay directly to the creator instead? The site can then calculate the fee owed by the creator and then the creator is responsible for paying that fee at a regular interval. If there's no payment of the fee then the creator has their usage of the site removed and ideally the site is charging enough of a fee in general to build up enough of an insurance fund to compensate those end users.
For what it's worth, btcpay does something like this, it generates the single use addresses as subaddresses of that wallet too, and then uses the view keys to verify completed transactions.
