Normies don't matter (usually)

There is a never ending idea that somehow "normies" (typical paycheck-to-paycheck person) will somehow wake up and start accepting or using Monero. But, this is both unlikely and counter productive to more Monero adoption.

Ask the typical person, with either very little savings in a bank account, or fully invested in stocks and other trad-fi. Most often you will hear, in one way or another, they are not interested in crypto or Monero. They will complain about price stability, since they can't stomach losing money. Or, they will not know how to get it or where to use it despite these topics being covered endlessly.

Think of all the time spent educating these people and ask yourself if it's really worth it. What would make more sense is to listen to people who are already using Monero and make their experience better. If a person already understands how to use Monero, they are the perfect person to build something for.

In other words, build something for Monero users. Listen to them. Re-create services they already use with a focus on Monero. Leave reviews on existing businesses and services that accept Monero so that others feel confident in using those. This is a better use of time and brings more strength to Monero usage.

Ignore normies. Generally speaking, it is a waste of time to try to get someone who has no interest in Monero to use it. If someone honestly wishes to use Monero, then by all means help them, but this is very rare.

You only have so much time and energy, why spend it on people who will forget what you say? Instead, you could be helping other Monero users, testing software, building a business and countless other things that actually improve adoption for existing users.

Instead of trying to onboard businesses to install some plugin that they will complain about, just ignore them entirely. We live in an era where the cost of creating a business with AI is very low. It's a better use of time to just create Monero-first businesses and bypass the whole idea of convincing people about it.

The reality is fiat is already extremely convenient. Tapping a credit card is simple, or using venmo. It's stable and libertarians look like youtube-boomer idiots when they act like the dollar is going to collapse any day now. So yeah, I'm in agreement with OP, because the only real pull for normies is not decentralized peer to peer cash, it is a scarce digital asset they can make them rich. That's just the reality of the situation. The "normies" involved with crypto today are almost entirely moonboys who would support censorship to keep their gains, even though paradoxically moonboyism does cause the price to go up which would do wonders for a project like Monero's security and development.
Of course this is a fine line, because if the culture is lost to moonboyism there is nothing left of it's soul, and this in many ways is how cryptocurrency is viewed by the normies or by the hardcore cypherpunks. There has been some improvements to Bitcoin, Nostr for example actually has a really improving culture, amazingly enough, and I think this is being motivated by the diminishing returns of Bitcoin. The moonboys run around and chase the new shiny shitcoin (i.e. the saylor ponzi) but the real ones kind of just silently build.
Anyways, going up to random people and shilling Monero has and will always be cringe but sometimes it works I guess? I don't think I could ever do something like that. If crypto is ever brought up irl I keep it technical and not at all about price because I'd rather be viewed as some hacker cypherpunk nerd than a bumbling frat bro, but usually the conversation will swing back to sick gainz and it's like yeah.

I'll just go ahead and assume OP is saying this because of social media posts like on Xitter or something. Because I can't think of a way to end up with this conclusion.

Regardless, here's my rationale behind Monero preaching:

This will all also apply to most other privacy tools like private messaging services and operating systems, but it's perhaps even more true with Monero. I'd first of all only talk and educate about Monero to friends and family, nobody else ever cares about whatever you're trying to shill them, ESPECIALLY when it's monetary, and ESPECIALLY when it's crypto related (you can thank number-go-up cryptbros for that one).

Secondly, I'd never start with educating anyone on Monero so that they start using it, but rather only to be aware of it and properly understand the basic concepts and goals. This is a crucial component for a faster transition to the next stage, if it ever happens.

Monero is, like it's fellow cypherpunk and privacy tools, a concept that for most peoole will only makes sense to one's mind when one experiences a real event where they'd recall Monero's usecase and start seriously considering participation. This is to say almost nobody will care what benefits Monero brings until they go through an incident such as their money gets frozen for whatever reason, they get rejected when attempting to send funds to someone, they suddenly get their bank account closed, or they just start desiring private transactions for whatever reason. It's at that moment where one would go from never thinking to question the fiat/central bank system, to seriously wanting to seek alternatives, or from someone who's only aware of Monero and not a user, to finally turn into one. And for those people, I'd want to help them complete the journey and get them to the otger end of the bridge.

@H1XMR Monero is different than a private messaging app in that using the app is required to communicate. It's an easier sell to get someone onboarded to Signal because there's no cost and the benefits are immediate. With Monero, the benefits can be found in different ways.

almost nobody will care what benefits Monero brings until they go through an incident such as their money gets frozen for whatever reason

This is a good point and it would sell someone easily on Monero. But, it's not so often a normie would have this happen to them, they may the least likely to have this happen.

@monerica I agree but the best would be if both of the options are done, like you said "helping other Monero users, testing software, building a business and countless other things.." but also trying to attract attention for crypto and especially the privacy ones like Monero.

@Orhan7 The best form of onboarding is leading by example. If someone lives off Monero, in full or in part, that is more interesting than someone who just tries to get their friends to buy it. This is the idea behind helping other Monero users first. If more people who use Monero lived off Monero, then onboarding people would actually be much easier due to the quantity of examples.

@monerica Yes you are right,I also agree with what you said before; there should be many more options for Monero users.
