monerodm tor onion monero p2p

MoneroDM is a protocol that enables anonymous P2P communication between two Monero addresses without any intermediaries.

How?
Both Monero and Tor use Ed25519 elliptic curve cryptography. A Monero public spend key is mathematically identical to a Tor onion service public key. This means anyone can compute a deterministic Tor onion address directly from any Monero address.

Why?
MoneroDM lets two Monero addresses to communicate anonymously without any intermediary. That means it can be used for anything that requires coordination. From P2P swaps to donation messages.

This video demonstrates the use of Feather Wallet plugin for MoneroDM and monerodm-tip, a decentralized XMRChat alternative.

I would love to receive valuable feedback from the community to improve MoneroDM together!

wait.... i remember something kinda like that
i dont remember exactly how it worked but that was like sending multiple transactions and with the last decimals or something like that, it would convert to the letters equivalent so multiple transactions could form sentences
that's blockchain bloat
then there was the whole mordinals too, similarly, bloating the blockchain for no reason...

but that was few years ago, i havent checked your thingy yet, does it work similarly?
like, does it produce bloat?
if so, monero's goal is the 1 usecase as digital cash, doing just that 1 thing, but doing it better than the other cryptocoins, pretty much, monero be one trick pony digital cash and the goal is to keep it that way rather than swiss army knife like ethereum that is bloated with useless usecases
dms are nice, there's dedicated apps for that tho, bloating the blockchain for messages, no so nice

but idk, maybe it's different there?

edit: aight nvm, thanks for the explanation, totally different then <3

@comfy not at all. it has nothing to do with monero blockchain. it just generates a deterministic onion service keypair using your monero spend/view keypairs. so everything happens on the tor network, without any key exchange. that means anyone can generate your tor onion address from your monero (sub)address, and all the communication happens through the tor network. it has nothing to do with bloating the blockchain, that wouldn't be convenient.

one can say making tor a dependency like that is bad, but monero people already use tor a lot, for the obvious benefits it provides. MoneroDM is a protocol built on this. it has pure benefits, imagine a p2p crosschain atomic swap network where the coordination happens through MoneroDM, without any intermediaries. or, as showed in the video, donation messages is an example everyone can reason, as there are things like XMRChat/TipXMR people made, but even though they are made with good intentions they are centralized, or requires self-hosted setup that no average person can do. MoneroDM offers an elegant solution without any bloat or side platforms.

and i personally believe Tor onion services offers the real self-hosting revolution, as it doesnt require you to setup anything, no need for NAT traversal, no DNS crap, and anonymity by default. MoneroDM just turns your Monero address into an onion address.
