@bulletbill22 Well, love him or hate him, Sade was among the first writers that I know about to contend with the philosophical ideas which have been troubling our collective understanding of morality ever since. The death of god, the rise of the wotan archetype, the reevaluation of morality itself. These problems have concerned all great writers since: Dostoevsky, Neitsche, Jung, McCarthy, to name a few. I believe that if you can contend with these ideas honestly then you can actually be free. I believe that modern man has the best oppotunity to become the author of his own values and destiny but such things will never be achieved under the influence of religion because it is fundamentally dishonest.
