jailbreak xmrbazaar

This is a project idea for someone who can spare some time and wants to earn monero.

There are lots of cheap kindles available online, but most of them are locked into amazon services. They would be much more valuable if they could read arbitrary pdf and epub files. However, selling jailbroken devices is often against the terms and services of online sales platforms. The solution would be to sell them on xmrbazaar.

So your project would be to buy cheap kindles, jailbreak them, and sell them on for monero.

This idea occurred to me because I was trying to jailbreak a kindle and found it a pain in the ass and wish I could just buy one already unlocked.

I don't think there's a substantial market here. Libreboot wasn't able to fund itself selling preflashed hardware because the market is so niche for that sort of thing. But I've been wrong before.

Phase 1: Determine Your Path
• Older Models (Pre-2020 / Fire OS 5–7): Often have hardware or low-level exploits (like mtk-su or shorting test points) that allow bootloader unlocking and TWRP custom recovery installation.
• Newer Models (2021+ / Fire OS 8+): Bootloaders are strictly locked. For these, replacing Fire OS with LineageOS is usually impossible, so you use Fire Toolbox via a PC to strip bloat, install Google Play, and change the launcher.
Phase 2: Preparing Your Setup
• PC Prerequisites: Install adb and fastboot drivers on a Windows/Linux PC.
• Tablet Setup: Go to Settings > Device Options, tap Serial Number 7 times to enable Developer Options, and turn on USB Debugging.
Phase 3: The Flashing Process (If Compatible)
1. Unlock the Bootloader: Use device-specific exploit scripts (typically hosted on XDA Developers) via ADB to bypass Amazon's bootloader security.
2. Install Custom Recovery: Flash TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) to the recovery partition via fastboot commands (fastboot flash recovery twrp.img).
3. Wipe System: Boot into TWRP, perform a full wipe (System, Data, Cache).
4. Flash LineageOS & GApps: Sideload the matching LineageOS .zip for your tablet's exact codename along with OpenGApps (Pico or Nano version) for Google Play services.
To give you the exact guide or alternative tool options, what is the exact model name and generation of your Fire Tablet (e.g., Fire HD 8 10th Gen, Fire HD 10 13th Gen)? Knowing your OS version in Settings > Device Options also helps.

@ditty
Some guides here: https://kindlemodding.org/
It doesn't work on every kindle, but its not hard to do either.

And you can get free books to put on it from annas archive:
https://annas-archive.gl/

Good luck if you decide to try
