Cheapest kindle I found on ebay was £10 whereas the cheapest kobos I could find that could actually read arbitrary pdf/epubs was £60+ (based on casual search) The older, cheaper kobos still lock you into an emarket; only the new ones do not.

With a minimum investment of £10 it might be worth a try for someone, despite the risks.
Not for me though I've got too many projects already.

but kinda fed behavior calling out skyzos for being skzyos while just trying to raise awarness about some opsec practices and learning from past real world examples that actually happened
