@Nebuchadnezzar_II If you buy PMs from a reputable dealer, there's nothing to verify. And to be honest, I truly believe the whole counterfeit gold thing is greatly exaggerated. Not to say it never happens, but seems to be an op to people scared people away. And to any degree it does happen, its almost certainly going to be large pieces ie kilo bars and such. Like counterfeit fiat rarely being small denominations, its likely next to nobody is going to take the time and risk of making fake fractionals or even ounces. Cost/benefit just isn't there.

As for portability, gram and half gram bars, fractional coins/rounds (they are as small as 1/25th an oz these days, about the size of a dime) and goldbacks. Again, certainly not telling you what to do, just offering my opinion and some suggestions.

@nemesis What you said about gold sounds realistic. Tokenised gold is just very convenient to me due to (instant, permissionless, onchain) liquidity, can swap for tokenised stocks, transport. But a small ammount of physical would certainly be a good insurance in a sticky situation. Truth be told, I am too poor to justify that at the moment. I put a great deal of work into learning about portfolios and investment so that if I ever take money I am prepared to multiply it. My dream is to sell a (pirate) bond to trusted partners. (No, day trading is not part of that) But in reality I can't be bothered to work; I'd rather be poor than have some manager ask me why I'm late and suffer the indignity of refraining from spinning their jaw.

@Nebuchadnezzar_II I do like the idea of tokenized gold. If its done the right way, ie 1 to 1 backing and auditable.

@GamingResearchLab i think using it as a new currency is actually extremly open minded

i do think it's possible and beneficial if monero gains against fiat, gold and btc, but for a community project money shouldn't be the priority

possibly there is the DeFi - RegFi split coming for monero
but I see DeFi is gaining extremely atm. (retoswap etc.)

@nemesis how would that be auditable? can you explain briefly?

@nemesis I use paxg but I consider tether to be disreputable. paxg is allocated which is a step further than 1-1; if you own 1 paxg then they can identify exactly where 'your' gold is in the vault. Its also bankrupcy remote. I'm not kidding myself that its infallable, but I consider it worth the risk for me.
