Comprehend Control

So, after watching the same shit unfold over the last eight months with a friend I love dearly, I ended up writing a song about it.

It wasn't really planned. I've been writing about the pattern, arguing about the pattern, pointing out the pattern, and watching people somehow manage to look directly at the evidence and still convince themselves that the next person is going to be different.

At some point my brain apparently decided, “You know what this needs? A fucking beat.”

So I made one.

The song is called Comprehend Control, and it's basically me taking that whole cycle of promises, excuses, delays, and misplaced faith and turning it into something you can actually hear.

Because that's the part that keeps bothering me. It's not that people don't have the information. They do. They'll spend months explaining why somebody shouldn't be trusted, point out exactly what that person has done, and then the moment a new promise comes along, suddenly it's maybe this time.

Eight months of evidence gets tossed aside for one new claim. And then we're surprised when the same thing happens again.

That's where the title comes from.

Do you comprehend?

Not “did you hear the words?” I mean, do you actually comprehend the pattern you're looking at?

The song isn't specifically about Monero, but I figured I'd share it here because the underlying subject should be pretty familiar to anyone who's spent much time thinking about control, authority, and what happens when you keep giving somebody else the power to decide things for you.

I actually like how the damn thing came out, too. It ended up being a lot catchier than I expected.

So yeah. Apparently I got pissed off enough to make a song about it. 😂
