zec zcash view-key view-keys carrot

Monero with optional privacy (frame it as optional transparency, if you prefer) is just zcash.

The reason that Monero works as a privacy coin while zcash fails is that zcash made deliberate design decisions that erode fungibility between "private" and "transparent" coins. Monero, with view-keys, is making that same decision, just without the deliberation.

Addendum: Suggestions for coins with mandatory privacy?

@GamingResearchLab

I understand the reason for the introduction of view keys. Its reasonable to want to be able to monitor your wallet without exposing your private key. But it does introduce the risk (inevitability) that I'm talking about. The eventual conclusion will be that your monero will no longer be private.

i dont get the whole debate about this or that, yall never had funds in cold storage or somethin and then when checked back then it was all gone? yall never had a loss of any kind? probably privilege fucks that got bailed out if that happened to them so they being all like "viewkeys are bad", idk, weird debate lol

Its mostly just smart people who understand the risks view-keys create. You wouldn't get it.

and no clue wtf that ivk/ovk thing even is anyways

Different kinds of view keys. IVK are the former barely functional ones, OVK are the new ones that do what you want.

well, if the cryptospace taught me anything is that...
people will create drama on purpose about non-issues so they can build a following for the XMR fork that they been planning since day 1
with the excuse being: "that thing will be the end of the world for monero", then they get couple people to invest in their new fork and then couple years down the line the fork is down 99.999% in price from ATH

:tinfoil:

but i guess there's also dipshits that sold their soul that will also be pushing for "compliance" for their dream to be listed on centralized exchanges
like, there's some of these out there too, that want to be on coinbase...

but pretty sure, as long as the consensus is still non-compliance then the viewkeys not being broken are pretty much a non-issue
like, if majority of people still trading P2P, using the viewkeys only for themselves to check if cold storage funds are safu, rather than dm'ing brian armstrong to be listed on coinbase and be compliant then yea it's all good i guess

@xmr_is_goated.
True. Only retards wouldn't get it.

@GamingResearchLab

if majority of people still trading P2P,

That's the rub. If XMR has any lind of mass adoption, that implies the sub-100 IQ masses are the users. Sub-100 IQ users are willing to surrender their privacy for convenience. There will be those who refuse to surrender their view-keys, and their coins will still be private among that niche group. But the masses will not accept those coins because their CEX / bank won't accept those coins.

For an idea of how niche the private group will be, its everyone who uses XMR now.

Retards like you like to waste time. Put on your big boy pants, learn to code, and make a fork already.

Of course make sure to stir the pot as aggressively as you can before you leave! That's a very healthy recipe for your fork.
