When it comes to so-called 'wrench attacks' Everyone always talks about not using a KYC exchange. And yes, that is a good start. But a data breach is not the only reason people get attacked, and crytpos are not the only reason people get attacked. Has nobody considered what you do in regards to any criminal attacking you? Like maybe be armed? You may not be able to own a gun where you live, but chances are you can own and carry a knife. Carry pepper spray. And another thing that far too many fail on. Situational awareness. Put you damn phone away and take the damn earbuds out when you are in public. Pay attention to every person you see. Head on swivel, check your six. If you feel you must, cross the street. Stay out of unlit alleys. Most crime that occurs in public happens because the victim looks like an easy target. Walk like you own the place. Present yourself with confidence. Head up. Shoulders back. Make eye contact. Can it still happen? Of course. But you can do many things that would give a would-be attacker pause as to if you are an easy target or not.

'Chances are you can carry a knife'

Ahahahah
Depends on where you live for sure.
I say you'll be 40-60% safer if you make sure to stay outta the UK rn
Just remember, even when being armed is not allowed where you are, criminals don't follow laws!
And of course, if you carry anything at all, know how to use it, otherwise it will be used against you.
The most recommended non-weapon self defense tool is a heavy metal flashlight.
The other one is your feet.

I'm gonna be traveling to somewhere scary so I appreciate your words though, and definitely agree that being aware of your surroundings is paramount. Unfortunately there are crazy and murderous people all around us in life, and you cannot depend on anyone to keep you safe.

Example:
https://kiwifarms.st/threads/california-mass-stabber-who-killed-1-in-random-attack-was-out-on-parole-for-previous-knifing-spree.252092/

There is a non zero chance you could be riding a bus, train, or walking down a road, and a batshit loco will choose to make that day your last. So always be aware.

One cool tip I heard from a veteran:
People who don't dress for the weather.
People overdressed or underdressed (nearly naked in winter or indoors, coat hat and sweater in the summer etc etc) should pop red flags in your head.

@Nebuchadnezzar_II Yea, learning some type 'combat sport' is another thing. Someone on nostr also added changing travel routes when possible. Sure there are more I forgot, but many ways to keep oneself less likely to be a victim.

@avarice even where you can't legally carry a knife, carry one any way. What are the chances of being caught with a knife in your pocket? There is a saying in the US
'better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6'.
And yea, a heavy flashlight would be another good idea. Or something similar. I know I left out a lot of things, but my main point was there are many ways to avoid being a victim. The most important being, pay attention.

As for public transport, I ride the public bus often. I always sit in the back when that is open. And if not, as far to the back as possible. Less people behind. And a better view of everyone getting on the bus, and more distance between.

@Nebuchadnezzar_II something tells me razor blade dude seen some shit and been thru some shit in his day. And for the untrained and unarmed, a well placed kick to the nuts is the great equalizer. Or eye jabs.
