News LLMs Articles AI Skepticism Economy

hopefully titles can be changed later if I get the brain cells needed to think of a better one.
this is gonna be a hub for LLM / Generative AI critical posts (videos and articles), plus featuring some creators making quality videos on the topic.
added: and in general you can consider this one guy's POV of the current US economy.
Don't expect news on the nitty gritty of AI. development, I'm just here to watch the wod burn.

I'll likely update / reply to the post with new videos or articles or new news that I find day to day.
Newsletters worth reading:

(podcast: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsdzuPs5NKvdsBkQnP7Af8w )
Deep dives into the actual financial numbers of LLMs, real dives into asking WHERE ARE THE DATA CENTERS, THE GPUS, AND THEE DEMAND? the circular finance issue, the private credit and equity iceberg, and how we are in the Enshittification era
I have access to the premium newsletters.
Interviews featuring Ed:
nearly every Friday on the Tech Report, one being: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCeXwFWmv1U

Channels worth watching:
Pivot to AI (the name is a joke, the thumbnails made me worry it was ai but it's all the style of the channel. each episode is around 5 minutes, giving one bit of latest AI news)

Fair enough maybe my view is incompatible with this thread's intended purpose. LLMs are good and I'm not scared of them as an investor.

Good luck on your test.

The SpaceX S-1 is out!!

https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1181412/000162828026036936/spaceexplorationtechnologi.htm

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48213933

I'm waiting on all my YouTube ppl to make vids, but until then here's the bare bones.

I asked chatty to give a rundown- if it's wrong, then LLMs are poop and it's not my fault xD

SpaceX’s S-1 basically shows two companies under one roof:

A profitable satellite/infrastructure business (Starlink + launches)

An aggressively unprofitable AI/data-center expansion

2025 numbers, simplified:

Revenue brought in: ~$18.7B

Total spending/losses: ~$23.6B

Final net result: ~-$4.9B

The important nuance is where the money went.

Core SpaceX/Starlink appears to have generated roughly:

+$4B to +$5B operating profit

Meanwhile the AI side reportedly:

lost ~$6.4B operationally

while also spending ~$12.7B building AI infrastructure/data centers/GPU clusters

So the legacy business seems healthy; the AI expansion is what pushed the company deep into net losses.

In other words:

Starlink appears to be funding an AI compute arms race.

As for the rumored ~$1T valuation:

the S-1 does not justify it on current earnings

it only makes sense if investors believe SpaceX becomes dominant in:

global internet infrastructure

AI compute

launch services

potentially orbital compute/data centers

At ~$18.7B revenue, a $1T valuation implies ~53x revenue — extremely aggressive even by major tech standards.

The filing itself is also more cautious than Musk’s public messaging:

it explicitly warns orbital AI/data-center concepts may never become commercially viable.

So the S-1 reads less like:

“Here is a massively profitable company”

and more like:

“Here is a profitable infrastructure company using its cash flow to finance an enormous speculative AI expansion.”

Things to investigate:
Anthropic paying 1.25 billion per month through May 2029 for compute via Colossus 1 and 2
wonder what Ed has to say about Colossus

OpenAI IPO as soon as Friday rumors! (may 22 2026)

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/20/openai-ipo-filing.html

The company has raised more than $180 billion from investors, and it continues to burn through cash at a historic pace.

Anthropic CLAIMS to be profitable, but....

https://www.wheresyoured.at/anthropics-profitability-swindle/

If you take this as incontrovertible proof that Anthropic is profitable, you are deliberately ignoring the blatantly obvious ways these numbers are being massaged. We’ve got its CFO saying numbers that don’t match up with these leaks or Anthropic’s own marketing materials, and the aggressive and deluded way in which many people ignore them is equal parts frustrating and depressing.

I find the whole 'We shall allow you to buy our gpus, china!' 'Nah we good' news quite funny.

ngl i dont even know what any of these companies are even working on or what even is the name of their models or what, literally no clue nor would i care to care lol

i just know that they cannot replace my line of work with it, ever
they wish they could, they cant lmao

meanwhile devs are literally balding with all of that, you know they actually scared that it gonna replace their job, which it already did, many people that could have hired them are now just using llms instead
so they very very mad about it and it's hilarious
literally what they talk about all day everyday "oh this ai this and this ai that", like who gives a fuck lmao

and then u got people like someone working at cakewallet, that apparently is communicating with his wife by replying to her through automated message from the llm cause he a lazy fuck or somethin lmao
and he actually thinks it's actually so cool or something that he literally made a whole tweet about it lmao

aside from that idk, the main thing i guess is more like cybersecurity?
automated audits to find issues in codebases and whatnot

so i guess that's my theory regarding those, why those companies are so into it, they just wanna see the world burn type thing, so that all of the vulnerabilities everywhere be exploited, the world on fire then they go to their mars bunker on the moon or somethin idfk lmao

like, u know the whole "oh quantum computers gonna break everything" or somethin somethin, well imo that's more these llms that just gonna take care of that

but yeah the whole news about company this does that or what, idk, couldnt care less ngl
and i just running them locally anyways, never used claude or what idk, if is local, offline and working that way then why would i care about "oh this company is suing that company because of a thing", like, that doesnt affect the local llm...
