block lock monero

2027 feels coming fast now
in the world that almost everything feels fast, we had one things that make us wait
which is monero 10-Block Lock

the question was. do we really still stuck and had no "wayout" from this one?
https://github.com/monero-project/research-lab/issues/95 seems we had one or two tweak to make.
been one long viewer of this git since 2022... and til now the lastest discussion seems 2025? so we not even came to close to eliminating block lock?

remove block lock when wen?

@UsualCat

for people who had more to spend or more on wallet YES.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean here, but if you spend it all then the wallet is empty.

separate "COLD wallet" with "Transaction" wallet its a things, since now i had limited xmr to moved, while at same time, i should wait money arrive and need to wait AGAIN to send those money...

if you know you are gonna have to wait and plan on spending more than you have in your spend wallet, plan ahead and make sure you have what you need in your spend wallet. This sounds more like a you and your setup issue than a XMR issue. I'm honestly not seeing the problem. Sounds like you are over-complicating this but blaming XMR. I'm not intending to be rude, so don't take it that way, but this isn't a XMR problem as you are describing it.

Think of it this way. You are going somewhere and intend on using cash. You make sure you have enough (and some extra just in case) before you get where you are going. If you need more than you have and that place doesn't have an ATM, and you have to go somewhere that does and then go back, its not the ATM's or the place you are at's fault. You just didn't plan properly

@nemesis to be honest i somehow confused what word i should use... maybe use this analogy
example i setup merchant wallet.
on my merchant system, i had 5 goods, when buyer come buy 1-1, its okay, 30min wait isn't big problem
but when ppl come to buy lets say, 30 goods. then i FORCED to wait the block lock, one was it arrive, one when its going out (i mean i need to send it for buying new stock)
do you get it from here? imagine its litecoin, so its more faster since ppl come buying any stock, i can just restock it on next 5 min.

plan ahead and make sure you have what you need in your spend wallet.

you miss the point again here... i mean i just want "money from merchant is money for merchant" not from my own pocket. rn, i just compensate the money from my own money or cold storage wallet. which is not fun.... while on litecoin-btc wallet on my merchant for example... no issue appear. i can just re-stock it fast since i only need 1 block confirmed compared to monero 10 confirmed. this issue was intended for someone who want start small or "split" something so its not mixed with other things. thats the core argument i made. "Plan the fund" ahead was good. but that's not on the discussion, the core idea was if we JUST had 5 stock, and had no other money. we just some potato in side of the map.... then ppl bought 5 goods, its okay. but if they buy 100.... we need to restock fast while the buyer waiting
thats the core argument :)

@SpinningCat if you're interested into "real drama" on monero maybe you can dm me or contact via simplex. somehow i had wild argument to be said. (but not on public) its regarding "some" people who seems "blocking" essential update of core monero system

@bulletbill22 if you had time, maybe just search about finality layer proposed change on monero system right after cubic attack. there's alot of proposed changed that even can enhanced the overall blockchain and also make it more strong against block reorg

@UsualCat well, if people are sending to you, I still fail to see the issue. Again, this sounds more like as poor planning issue than a need to change code issue. And if you only have 5 of something, you only have five of something. Why would you take an order for 30 of something if you don't have it? That's essentially fraud. And again, poor planning. If you are running a business of some sort, you make sure you have the items before hand, as well as enough funds accessible to buy more when needed.

@nemesis how about seeing it from ppl who just receive the monero at first or 20-ish time?
he had low "amount" of xmr on his wallet. and assomeone like me who want to keep every wallet as its own
i dont want to pour money from my own pocket to those wallet

my btc wallet, ltc wallet, bank, monero
they all individual things, all i "can" do was just take out money for profit, and let running money rotate themself to better understand how much profit loss with little to no heavy recap

if ppl buy stock.... (you already read it right?).... then i wait almost 30 min to just restock... it will not fun except i compensate the wait with my own money.... non merchant will hard to see the problem since buyer is just come, throw money, and go.
but for merchant who need to facilitate that. its become "some problem" with 10 block lock limitation

or in short... why ppl love waiting 10 block lock when they had clear cut solution for instant 1 block lock....?

@UsualCat again, properly planning. If you are trying to run a business, these are things that need to be done. Every successful business makes certain they have enough stock and and enough liquidity to replenish stock as needed. Changing code is a lot more work than individuals planning ahead. And changing code that already works involves potential mistakes. I wouldn't say its about anyone loving a 10 ten block lock, its about accepting reality and planning accordingly.

@nemesis read it slowly mate... its not even planning things. its lack of fund.... its had nothing to do with planning... you can had 999999999999 plan in hand... but if you had lack of fund... when ppl come with big money and big transaction, you forced to wait it.... what you gonna do other than that?
just give me the other way you think "had more planning" for it

if merchant just had 5$ equivalent on monero (no more than that)
then buyer come with 100$ transaction equivalent on monero

like or not the seller WILL WAIT 20+ block lock to get the goods ready since they need to swap those, and restock the goods. that's why if you ever read some bitcoin documentation, they usually pair btc with ltc. and make the transaction flawlessly fast. if i not mistaken they on latin america. some tourist come and buy 100 hotdog for quick meet-up party

what the seller do if they only had 50 goods on hand? just run to store, stock the goods for another or even 100.... it less than 10 min to do it even less... for monero.... you need to wait more than that.... money come take 10block. if the supplyer support it, maybe they need 10block lock.... or half if they already know each other.... or seller need to swap it before.... its literal more effords.....

why we keep our hand capped on 10 block lock.... if we can just remove it? people already made some good blueprint.... security? researcher will handle it not us,... unless you're the researcher..... but i doubt any researcher also love good, peak design just like battery.... solid state battery....now lithium battery for future.... that's why we should see future.... if we had 10 block lock then we want it 5..... after it 1....
if we had 1$ fee, we want it 0.5, then 0.3, then 0,1 then 0,01.... that's how we should look forward.... not just blame the "planning" where i put alot of example which is not even capped on the plan... while you not even give one example of the planning flaw like what you said......

anyway... peak discussion cat vs cat 😅

@UsualCat I really don't know what more I can say. All you are doing is explaining the same things in different ways. And its all indicative of a poorly run business. There are monero only businesses. They make it work. One thing though, you can't operate under the assumption that your supplier is going to be monero only, or accept monero at all. That's a fatal flaw. Doing that severely limits your options and ability to run a business as well. Also, if it is a supplier that one works with regularly, there can be 'credit' agreements. That's how many businesses operate once relationships between operator and suppliers have been established. But it comes down to liquidity more than anything. You need to have what you need to operate, whether product or liquidity to re-stock product. That's just how running a business works. This isn't unique to monero.

@UsualCat another thing that can ease this issue is if your supplier will issue a line of credit. That's how many businesses operate as well. Obviously it must be an established, trusted relationship, but that's how liquidity issues can be solved. Again, I'm not saying the lock is something I am in favor of, but I'm also not opposed to it. Its there for a reason. But as I previously mentioned, changing code can lead to issues. Its not like that section of code can just be removed and still have a working product. Everything else needs to re-done to accomodate that change.

@UsualCat one more thing, even if the lock would be eliminated, it wouldn't happen anytime soon, so its still something you will have to deal with until that time, should that time come.
