News LLMs Articles AI Skepticism

hopefully titles can be changed later if I get the brain cells needed to think of a better one.
this is gonna be a hub for LLM / Generative AI critical posts (videos and articles), plus featuring some creators making quality videos on the topic.
I'll likely update / reply to the post with new videos or articles or new news that I find day to day.
Newsletters worth reading:
https://wheresmyed.at
(podcast: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsdzuPs5NKvdsBkQnP7Af8w )
Deep dives into the actual financial numbers of LLMs, real dives into asking WHERE ARE THE DATA CENTERS, THE GPUS, AND THEE DEMAND? the circular finance issue, the private credit and equity iceberg, and how we are in the Enshittification era
I have access to the premium newsletters.
Interviews featuring Ed:
nearly every Friday on the Tech Report, one being: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCeXwFWmv1U

on other channels:

Channels worth watching:
Pivot to AI (the name is a joke, the thumbnails made me worry it was ai but it's all the style of the channel. each episode is around 5 minutes, giving one bit of latest AI news)

Fair enough maybe my view is incompatible with this thread's intended purpose. LLMs are good and I'm not scared of them as an investor.

Good luck on your test.

The SpaceX S-1 is out!!
https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1181412/000162828026036936/spaceexplorationtechnologi.htm

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48213933

I'm waiting on all my YouTube ppl to make vids, but until then here's the bare bones.

I asked chatty to give a rundown- if it's wrong, then LLMs are poop and it's not my fault xD

SpaceX’s S-1 basically shows two companies under one roof:

A profitable satellite/infrastructure business (Starlink + launches)

An aggressively unprofitable AI/data-center expansion

2025 numbers, simplified:

Revenue brought in: ~$18.7B

Total spending/losses: ~$23.6B

Final net result: ~-$4.9B

The important nuance is where the money went.

Core SpaceX/Starlink appears to have generated roughly:

+$4B to +$5B operating profit

Meanwhile the AI side reportedly:

lost ~$6.4B operationally

while also spending ~$12.7B building AI infrastructure/data centers/GPU clusters

So the legacy business seems healthy; the AI expansion is what pushed the company deep into net losses.

In other words:

Starlink appears to be funding an AI compute arms race.

As for the rumored ~$1T valuation:

the S-1 does not justify it on current earnings

it only makes sense if investors believe SpaceX becomes dominant in:

global internet infrastructure

AI compute

launch services

potentially orbital compute/data centers

At ~$18.7B revenue, a $1T valuation implies ~53x revenue — extremely aggressive even by major tech standards.

The filing itself is also more cautious than Musk’s public messaging:

it explicitly warns orbital AI/data-center concepts may never become commercially viable.

So the S-1 reads less like:

“Here is a massively profitable company”

and more like:

“Here is a profitable infrastructure company using its cash flow to finance an enormous speculative AI expansion.”

Things to investigate:
Anthropic paying 1.25 billion per month through May 2029 for compute via Colossus 1 and 2
wonder what Ed has to say about Colossus
