xenu/antimoonboy reacting to moneroforum (timestamp 01:01:05):
https://odysee.com/@anti_moonboy:7/amn54:a
i do agree with his take, tho we might not be talking about the same boomers message boards lol, the one i thinking about is literally for videogaming lol (and is still alive as of today since 2001 O_O)

while i wasnt aware of discourse, i kinda like the design of “users are the community” type thing
which was kind of similar as how i used to build my servers back then too
eryone active in the community having access to the moderation tools, like, if they had a cryptocoin, they were able to make a whole category for it, pin messages and the basic moderation tools too, just for being active in the community
i guess in that aspect dicourse is a bit similar to that design

as for the actual frontend design thing, yea i do like the old forums better lol
but is still better than the reddit/lemmy style design imo
and the whole upvoting / sort by new type thing as been proven to be flawed af and should have been forgotten a long time ago already
so in that aspect as well, discourse better there too imo, but who knows, will see how it goes coming forward
and it’s still centralized anyways, so… vulnerable to ddos and other type of attacks or admin getting compromised type thing, like, those are issues with centralization

but yea, will see how it goes coming forward i guess, and if it can handle the type of adversaries monero has, including takeovers on the community type thing…

bump
more activity would be nice else seems like it just gonna be the price bot that will keep stacking those threads or somethin lol

aight so did some 420s, had the music from this tweet in loop:
https://xcancel.com/spirobel/status/1986338507439415738#m
(autism do be like that sometimes lol)

and i just thought…
like, that spiro dude is currently working on a browser extension to use as monero wallet or somethin
and while my comment on it last month was, i don’t really like the idea of thoses, because of the attack vectors on both web wallets and browser extensions (yes, they different lol)
also said that having something in the browser is kinda next level for UX

and with that new forum thing on discourse
started to check on what kind of design choice those other discourses been doing, like:
https://forums.unrealengine.com/
literally front page of the forum is the categories
so i was like, damn, kinda similar to how this videogaming forum thing is doing:
https://forums.d2jsp.org

which the latter is a whole community that exists since 2001 for trading videogaming items and videogaming services P2P through their own forum currency that been existing since way before bitcoin (Forum Golds (fg))

like, there’s that comment thing in here:

well.. have u thought about over there on that videogaming forum thing?

so then i was all like, fuck yea, videogaming, cause u know:

relevant topic:
https://monero.forum/t/monero-community-dont-know-shit-about-p2p-circular-economy-come-play-videogames-instead/283/4
(u dont have to read through it, is just so the discourse thing does the crosspost over there or whatever how its even working i dont even know lol)

so anyways, that videogaming forum thing has its own currency, is kinda like if people had their bank account balance public, but pretty much just the balance
then they still have their own trade history

and i guess in monero, the outgoing viewkeys still not working until C.A.R.R.O.T. iirc which should probably come along with the FCMP++ upgrade thing
but there is not really even a use for those even for that market over there either when thinking about it
like, the main reason the balance is public over there is because of the “2/3 rule” which is often used when trading

@Spiro dude
I use this as my note taking platform while writing #DearDiary. You are my rubbe
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_duck_debugging

So that 2/3 rule thing over there is like pretty much the “Trust Level” (TL on discourse)
and is used as a way to determine “who sends first” when doing a trade
(note: mediators (escrows) are also a thing on the videogaming forum)
which, for discourse could read how those TL work over there:

But over there the 3 variables of trust for that 2/3 rule thing are:

  • “Join Date”
  • “Amount of Posts”
  • “Wallet Balance”
Which those first 2 could also be the case on a platform such as Discourse
but for the “wallet balance” part, i guess for Discourse instead it could be like that:
  • “Join Date”
  • “Amount of Posts”
  • “Amount of Like received”

at first the idea to onboard that market over there would have been through a DEX that uses Monero, similar as Haveno or something like that, which, they also do have a working DEX, just not on that website, but is closed source and windows only: https://diablodex.com/
so like, nothx lol
but it dont even need its own currency anyways
which, unlike that forum that does, that DEX dont even use (but Monero would be good UX)
because there is already real world fungible currencies in the game already, that can be and is being used as $100 bills, $30 bills, $1 bills and so on
with pretty much those values as of today

so anyways, at this point am pretty much bored, too long didnt read or whatever i guess:
since Discourse is opensource: https://github.com/discourse/discourse
and seems like it can also have Templates: https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-templates/229250
then i guess, don’t even need to have a decentralized alternative to onboard that market over there
could like, have a template to make it look similar to: https://forums.d2jsp.org
inspired by the design of that other Discourse over there: https://forums.unrealengine.com
and do the onboarding the community overtime, by having an xmrbazaar alternative but through discourse instead, while promoting the browser extension thing to the videogamers that are doing the trading over there while keeping streaming and whatnot

and in case that monero forum thing has to go down for some whatever reason
then similar as how Haveno does, which could spin an other network of it
(there is currently 2 haveno network btw: Retoswap and Dawnswap)
then could spin up an other instance of discourse by importing similar template that would have been used
and i guess it would be to the users to grind back that trading reputation thing
which since they would be doing the trading through the work in progress browser extension thing, then they would have less worries of getting rugpulled by an integration of some tipbot or somethin

and marketing strategy to onboard that market would be similar as what did this october:
with Monero getting #8 HC on that ladder thing over there:
https://d2emu.com/ladder?s=12&t=all-hcxp
while an importer clakk-com got #2 SC this ladder:
https://d2emu.com/ladder?s=12&t=all-scxp
(so coming forward could be “moneroDOTforum” or whatever other discourse if cant be done on this one, templates would be shareable anyways)
which those ladders lasts about 4 months so 4 times a year
so just playing 1 week or 2 of the videogame 4 times a year
while keeping doing the streaming, trading with those other streamers and keeping educating that community on the videogaming forum regarding Linux and Monero and multiboxing the videogame on Linux

note:
mediators / escrows / trusted traders or whatever could also have custom roles / trust levels on discourse:
https://meta.discourse.org/t/custom-trust-level/147253

Nice! Question, why don’t we give such activity and focus to pre-existing https://forum.monero.space/?

Is the admin nym known in the community? Any GitHub, Reddit, et. al. nicknames? Just curious…

Cheers! The more, the merrier.

Wow, I completely forgot this exists! I thought this was the first Discourse Monero forum, glad there already was another.

You could try: https://mailum.com
It worked well to register, no issue

They also have a thread here:

edit: my bad, didnt realized u was talking about the other monero forum, don’t mind me lol

I created a new email from mailum but didn’t work either. I assume something wrong with email service from forum. But thanks for recommendation @audit

Did you use Tutanota?

Thanks for raising. It should now be working properly again.

but nothing else since, forum over there is ded af
literally even more dry than wownero’s repository LOL
o7

anyways, @edisondotme thanks for your contributions still
and my bad being a bit too videogamer moment when u keep saying dumb shi lol
admin is 1 week away from moving to TL3
you’re literally half way to TL3
while, as an actual videogamer i could literally speedrun the shit out of you on that, that would just be boring so rather you get it first lol, well, after admin at this rate i guess, still
glad to have you around regardless

#DearDiary of the day lol

someone today posted this link in #monero channel:
https://discuss.privacyguides.net/t/remove-cake-wallet/34394

so then i was like “oh, an other discourse thing!”
which seems to be pretty active, they have like 5k users or somethin
maybe worth considering making a thread over there, tho maybe too early rn, as the direction of moneroforum is still a bit unclear at this time

so then quickly checked their user stats page thing:
https://discuss.privacyguides.net/u?order=likes_received&period=all
and i was like “oh, i seen that dude before!”
on xmrchat over there seems like:
https://xmrchat.com/jonah
might be him, might not be him, who knows, didnt send dono cause i lazy
but i guess could be a point of contact for moneroforum there, if making a thread on their discourse or somethin, who knows, idk

and at the moment moneroforum seems to pretty much just be my personal diary or somethin LOL
but dont worry, imma eventually take a step back anyways, when will be playing the videogame thing then ill just be busy over there and yall have some peace and quiet up in here so yall should contribute on this moneroforum thing or somethin, rather than just me and the voices in my head lol

that guy’s name is literally “DKP” lmao :joy_cat::

which, videogamers been inventing “currency” type systems for decades for large communities type thing
and while that DKP system do have some flaws as well, it still has a more proven track record than “cryptocoins”

for the ones that dont know, here’s a quick TLDR of what DKPs are:

At its core, DKP, or Dragon Kill Points, is a loot system used by guilds in World of Warcraft Classic. It’s a semi-formal way to track and reward player participation and contribution in raids, specifically designed to address the challenge of fairly distributing valuable loot among a large group of players. Essentially, it’s a point-based system where players earn points for attending and participating in raid encounters and can then “spend” those points to acquire desired gear when it drops. In a nutshell, DKP is a virtual currency that aims to make the distribution of raid loot more equitable and transparent within a guild.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_kill_points

Dragon kill points or DKP are a semi-formal score-keeping system (loot system) used by guilds in massively multiplayer online games. Players in these games are faced with large scale challenges, or raids, which may only be surmounted through the concerted effort of dozens of players at a time. While many players may be involved in defeating a boss, the boss will reward the group with only a small number of items desired by the players. Faced with this scarcity, some system of fairly distributing the items must be established.

https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon_kill_points

What is DKP?

DKP, short for Dragon Kill Points, is a concept originally created by Thott of Afterlife, at a time where the only two raid targets in Everquest were two dragons, Lady Vox and Lord Nagafen. These points are awarded to each guild member as they attend a guild raid. The current DKP of each member reflects his or her priority for loot. When a member “wins” an item, they lose a DKP amount that reflects the value of that item.

DKP allows for an unbiased comparison between guild members when decisions about loot are to be made based on attendance and recent items that have been awarded.

tldr:
the Monero CCS system is literal garbage, made by rehrar that dont know actual shit about videogames, he always been a literal cringe ass poser on that
DKP systems is provably better than the CCS model
