First off I would like to thank everyone for joining and being active but as this forum grows it feels like Discourse is probably not the right option. It’s fine for running a community but if I want to add more features its a no go.
I’m thinking of making my own forum from scratch (yes I’m a developer) but I need your input and ideas on features. Let me know what you want in a forum I’m open to any suggestions.
Unlike a lot of people in this space I’m not going to be Jewish and ask for x amount of Monero to do this. I hold a lot of Monero so it’s directly beneficial for me if this space grows.
I also don’t want to promise anything, I do have other project and a life so I’m not going to set a dead line.
No javascript is a must and this site should work in the Tor browser
There should be a better marketplace
Posted products and services should be more uniformed and styled and approved by an admin to stop phishing / scams
A Monero tip system
A couple of user’s have brought up making it a decentralized system but sorry that’s not possible. Either I would have to do some crazy javascript thing (I hate javascript) or you would have to download and run some program on your computer, and no sane person should be running a binary from some small forum site.
If we did a decentralized system I feel like it should be a bigger project allowing anyone to run their own forum on one system. (cool project idea)
properly designed moderation tools
(and why not incentive for moderation / escrow to behave)
that’s pretty much the top 2 must have features imo
if the reputation / trust system is designed properly then it shouldnt require manual approval by an admin, in my opinion
and manual approval would also be a massive downside on UX
well, i guess it could be a case by case situation
for the market i been trying to onboard, it shouldnt be needed (and has to be snappy fast anyways)
for other type of products and services, it might be a good idea
so why not have categories that would be more restrictive than others i guess?
honestly, as long as it’s designed in a way that it could actually replace this trading forum: https://forums.d2jsp.org
then i’ll be willing to contribute in any way i can
but in the past 24 years, no one was able to provide a better alternative so far so…
the bar is pretty high if actually wanting to build something that could
gotta be trustless tho, too many rugpulls and whatnot in the space
hence the idea to start with shilling the work in progress browser extension monero wallet thing, until something that could be integrated directly would be made
so dont be a jew by building a proprietary solution to something that could be opensource
by being opensource it would allow the project to keep on living whether you get bored with it or whatever
i really started to get to the idea of discourse, making a local instance thing for a template could share and whatnot
but yea, NoJS is a must tbh, and too many people in the monero community doing the Tor thing anyways, so, that makes senses tbh
btw, any update on current progress of like, short terms plans you might have for the forum?
or for now is mostly long term plans and just chillin for a bit?

right, what i been wondering a bit as well too
if for example, starting to write guides or somethin, what would be the targeted audience type thing, like, if like, people completely new to the space or what idk
plenty people that seems to be pretty knowledgable already been posting
like, merchants & services for their own things, webdevs and whatnot
but they’re not really active
well, i guess aside from VPSLab that been able to bump their thread and reply here and there
but some early contributors to the forum seems to have taken a step back already or just completely ghosted
but then also, since admin mentioned something about changing the forum completely
then that would also mean probably that the users would have to start again from scratch?
and the longer it’s still based on discourse, the more will end up being lost i guess?
and got left on read by admin today i guess lol, maybe bored already with wanting to keep the forum online, like exit incoming or somethin? idk lol
it alot of wait & see and speculating on the intentions & what would be the directions
like, yea, depending on userbase i guess
but then, would be nice to know which kind of userbase to shill the forum to
if step 1 was shill to the merchants & services, but most might have been bored already?
that would kinda suck if the legit merchants & services got scared away already lol
idk lol
i guess for now is just chill for a bit and see when the holiday season comes to an end
imma still post here and there, my apologizes for the walls of text and just feel free to tell me to stfu too lol

i think its a good idea, right now i am also writing a new article, manifesto for developers, gonna be out there soon (no kyc development manifesto). those days most of the internet users dont wanna contribute or spend time on it. reading is already hard for people, now we want them to write which is more harder
plenty people that seems to be pretty knowledgable already
i disagree on that. for example, i almost dont know anything, still learning everyday.
but then also, since admin mentioned something about changing the forum completely

i hope they don’t have to change much, current software looks okay imo. but not sure, we will see from @admin future updates.

i agree on that, this is shouldnt be monerica.com, 70% normal posts, 30% service posts model is okay.
i believe it will be active in future, just taking time. btw, @admin if its possible, you can create a donation page (i dont see, maybe its exists somewhere) for server costs. i know its expensive to operate server. i believe a lot of people wanna support it.
@admin ^
idk nothin about docker, i just too retarded for it lol, but iirc u mentioned somewhere that u got the discourse thing running from docker?
so i guess u would be more knowledgable than i am to look into it
smol nitpick, dont really matter tbh, so def shouldnt be on the “priority list” or whatever
but like, when quoting a post, it dont show the actual date:
like for example there, “last month” is a december quote within a january quote
so “last month” means “november”
without the date on the quote actually showing, it’s easy to mistaken it for “last month” meaning december
literal smol nitpick that dont really matter, but forums are usually designed with proper date implementation type thing, just helps on context
like, in different context than here, could help pinpoint that:
“oh, i using this outdated library’s dependency from that date, while at the other date there’s now an up to date dependency to be used”
i havent asked opencode if it can be done on discourse so idk if it’s possible or no
maybe it’s not even possible on discourse, like, literally dont know lol
Each should write a piece, one per fortnight. A mod post should also be answered.
PM me a banner and I post it at the litecointalk, something about exchanges where both coins are present. I think you could do the same for litecointalk.
