Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Announces Historic Adoption of Wownero as National Legal Tender

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea today announced a decisive new measure to advance national economic independence and modernize domestic trade: the official recognition of Wownero (WOW) as a lawful currency for the purchase of goods and services across the Republic.

In a statement issued by the State Economic Guidance Committee, officials described the move as “a brilliant and scientific step” designed to reinforce self-reliance, stabilize internal commerce, and “deliver the fruits of national progress directly into the hands of every citizen.”

A “People-First” Monetary Transition

Under the newly declared People’s Wownero Distribution Program, the state will procure a strategic reserve of Wownero and distribute it evenly to citizens throughout the country. The government stated that the purpose of the distribution is to ensure that every household has immediate access to spendable value for daily needs, local services, and community markets.

“Money must serve the people, not the other way around,” the statement read. “The adoption of Wownero will strengthen the people’s purchasing ability while protecting the dignity and independence of our economy.”

Officials emphasized that Wownero will be accepted for common transactions including food staples, household goods, transportation fees, and approved retail services.

State Procurement Sparks International “Attention”

The DPRK confirmed that it has begun acquiring Wownero “in substantial volume” through external channels, calling the purchases “a necessary economic operation befitting a sovereign state.” International observers have noted that market activity surrounding Wownero has intensified following rumors of state interest.

A senior representative of the Central Currency Coordination Bureau said, “When a nation takes decisive action, the world takes notice. Certain markets react accordingly.”

Addressing “Unusual Scarcity” of Wownero Supply

The State Economic Guidance Committee acknowledged that Wownero has proven “notably difficult to acquire in disciplined quantities,” citing its limited availability and the “unstructured habits” of foreign marketplaces.

To address these constraints, the DPRK has convened a series of formal discussions with foreign Wownero users and holders, described as “practical consultations with experienced participants,” to understand reliable procurement pathways and secure consistent access.

“These meetings are not negotiations,” the Committee stated. “They are educational exchanges intended to clarify how foreign citizens obtain Wownero and how sovereign institutions may procure it efficiently, without dependence on hostile systems.”

The Committee added that procurement efforts will continue “with unwavering focus” until national reserve targets are achieved.

National Device Distribution to Ensure Universal Access

To guarantee that Wownero can be used by every citizen without delay, the state will provide each household with a home computer configured for secure domestic commerce. The device will run the latest state-distributed edition of Red Star OS and include a state-approved Wownero wallet application, “Wowlet,” pre-installed and configured for citizen use.

Officials described the program as a “complete economic access package,” ensuring that no citizen is excluded due to lack of hardware, technical knowledge, or foreign dependency.

“Our goal is not partial adoption,” said a spokesperson. “Our goal is universal capability.”

Implementation and Domestic Integration

The government announced a phased rollout beginning with major cities, followed by provincial expansion. Retailers and state-approved merchants will receive guidance on accepted payment formats. Local distribution centers will be tasked with ensuring that “every citizen receives an equal share without exception.”

A national education campaign will also be introduced to help citizens learn safe and correct usage, including verification practices and transaction basics, alongside basic training on Red Star OS and the Wowlet application.

Closing Message

The Republic advances not by permission, but by principle. Through the wise leadership of the state and the united strength of the people, we will build a stronger economy, a more confident society, and a future where every citizen holds prosperity in their hands.

Today someone in the monero channels asked how to get Wownero (WOW) listed on Haveno/Retoswap/Dawnswap.

The answer that they got was, to request it on the repositories:

Since Wownero is now officially legal tender in the DPRK,
More avenues to aquire it, aside from mining would be kino af too.
