About to mine with two AMD epyc 7742

Just picked these bad boys up from Alibaba for about $800.

According to xmrig benchmark the 7742 gets 98Kh per CPU so two CPUs should be 196Kh and according to coinwarz that should net me 0.02196427 XMR per day or 0.6589281 XMR per month or $260 USD a month.

I’m still waiting on a motherboard and other parts but I’ll update the results here!

Are you sure? The CPU column says “2”?

# Hashrate 1 thread Size Duration CPU Threads Version
1 98162.40 383.45 10MH 101.872 2 256 6.14.0

I think that means it is 98Kh/2CPUs

You might only get half of the hash rate you expect.

I made the same mistake when I got into mining and I only got half the hashrate I had expected because of it.

You’re right and that sucks. That’s just bad design to show the hash rate of two cpus total. I don’t think mining will even cover the power cost now.

I agree, you’re not the first to get confused by those benchmarks.

Mine at a loss for now, 1 XMR will buy you a couple nice new cars someday. A few XMR will buy you a mansion.

or u know… considering all the attack vectors that been happening on Monero and its community

like, price suppression attacks from centralized exchanges running fractional reserve scams that are closing withdrawals for weeks/months because they just cant pay their customers from literally stealing those Monero from them
which is meant to make mining not profitable to mine (which it currently still isnt for many)

and the point of those attacks is to make it not profitable for the community, so that legit miners would eventually turn off their rigs, making the network more vulnerable to attacks
while adversaries that could have state funding or things like that will do it at a loss regardless, since their goal is to gain majority of the network consensus, despite being at a loss

like, sure, the price increased a bit recently
but the nethash increased as well
i would be weary of anyone shilling mining at a loss

fanatical miners that doing that, people on solar, botnets and more recently the whole qubic situation is, on the long run harming the network more than helping it in my opinion

while sure, you could pat yourself on the back for "supporting the network” or whatever fanatical miners are telling themselves nowadays
and all things considered, an additional 98Kh/s is pretty much just a drop in the ocean compared to the whole nethash so is not like your small contribution is “that” harmful
it is at a bigger scale tho

every hashrates added to the network without an actual price increase of the coin itself will make an other legit miner considering turning off their own rigs

so in my opinion, as of right now, “supporting the network” is not adding more fanatical mining to the nethash but straight up just buying the coin directly, increasing it’s price so eventually it could be profitable again to mine for legit miners that as a whole would have more impact in actually helping the network

like u know, instead of going in the red every month for the electric bill
you could instead every month just DCA a bit directly into the coin (you would end up with more Monero that way) while also investing in solar so that eventually that 1 rig could run on solar
well, it’s still winter so you could still mine with it for heating while turning the actual heaters off anyways
but winter will come to an end eventually and the hyped up moonboy / glowie rethoric from the post above, hyping you up about that new Epyc toy might fade away when dealing with heavier summer temps and those heavy electric bills
that’s when you might have those thoughts of “maybe mining at a loss is actually just dumb”

moonboyism did corrupt Monero like it did with Bitcoin, as predicted by the xenu/antimoonboy thing over there:
https://antimoonboy.com/darknetmarketmaximalism/

tldr:
consider investing in solar instead of just blindly mining at a loss and also DCA into the coin directly rather than going in the red on that electric bill on the long term
price go up do matter and should also be seen as “helping the network”
